More than 70 stakeholders joined the presentation of the EU Methane Regulation

On 26 May, a working meeting was held with representatives of companies from Ukraine’s oil and gas and coal sectors, organised with the support of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine as part of the project ‘Supporting the implementation of the EU Methane Regulation in Ukraine’.

During the meeting, project experts presented the key provisions of EU Regulation 2024/1787 on reducing methane emissions in the energy sector, in particular the provisions on the measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification of methane emissions, programmes for the leak detection and repair (LDAR), restrictions on routine venting and flaring, the inventory of abandoned wells and mines, as well as requirements regarding the methane intensity of fossil fuel imports to the EU.

The event was attended by over 70 representatives from industry companies, government bodies and the expert community. Participants discussed the main provisions of the Regulation and identified specific aspects that warrant further analysis as Ukrainian operators prepare for the future implementation of the Regulation’s requirements.

The next stage of the project will involve gathering information from industry operators on their current level of readiness to implement the requirements of EU Regulation 2024/1787, in order to identify the companies’ needs for technical and informational support.

The presentation given during the working meeting has been published for general information and is available at the following link.
