Ukrainians Demand Stronger EU 17th Sanctions Package After Russia’s Provocations in Turkey

As Russia continues to rain down murderous attacks, including on civilians, in Ukraine, while threatening decades of war, Ukrainian experts from Razom We Stand call for urgent implementation of full and transparent sanctions. Russian comments and actions during a week that should have resulted in peace prove that now is the time for Europe to put real pressure on Putin.

Razom We Stand’s Ukrainian Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Svitlana Romanko, stated,
“Russia’s intentions are now more clear than ever, and words and weak European threats have proven that Putin can so far ignore the EU with impunity. Europe’s continued purchases of Russian fossil fuels are today funding some of the worst atrocities we in Ukraine have had to bear over more than three years.

What is now needed are full and transparent sanctions that finally dry up Russia’s war machine, and finally drive Putin to the negotiation table rather than embolden his brutal acts on innocent people. I demand full sanctions on LNG gas tankers shipping Russian gas, and I insist that Europe ban all further LNG trade with Russia using spot markets. Sanctioning 200 shadow fleet ships isn’t enough when we estimate 1000 ships exist; they must all be sanctioned. Finally, the upcoming REPowerEU roadmap proposals must contain a concrete plan to fully ban Russian fossil fuel imports as soon as possible, not only in 2027. Together, these are the real pressure points that could finally bring peace to us in Ukraine.”
