As Russia threatens more attacks on Ukraine’s people and energy infrastructure, after brutal use of its hypersonic missiles on Kyiv, a major event today gives focus to Ukraine’s role as a world-leading problem solver in the move towards energy resilience and security.
Today, Founder and Executive Director Dr Svitlana Romanko of Ukrainian group Razom We Stand is a featured speaker at the conference, “Ukraine Winter: The Way Forward,” bringing together European and Ukrainian officials, diplomats, and energy experts to discuss Ukraine’s energy resilience, recovery and the urgent need to end Europe’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
Dr. Svitlana Romanko, Founder and Executive Director of Razom We Stand, and a featured speaker at the conference, said:
“This week saw Russia’s brutal use of its hypersonic ‘Oreshnik’ missile, directed against the civilian population of a major city, resulting in yet more death and destruction in my country. Russia also attacked our energy systems once again, but Ukrainians have long ago begun the transition to a more resilient and decentralised system. At the centre of these efforts are decentralised solar and wind generation, taking advantage of free energy sources: the wind and the sun. Saving money by not buying foreign LNG gas or oil is vital for helping our economy and gives real energy resilience. The rest of the world has lessons to learn from Ukrainian leadership in energy security.”
The event is co-organised with the Mission of Norway to the EU, the Mission of Ukraine to the EU, the European External Action Service (EEAS), and the Directorate-General for Enlargement and the Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST). High-level participation is expected from European Commissioner Marta Kos and Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
Focusing on lessons from the past winter, the conference will also outline Ukraine’s energy needs for 2026-2027, and the role decentralised renewable energy will play in the country’s upcoming winter. Organised within the framework of the EU-Norway Green Alliance, the event contributes to ongoing efforts under the Ukraine Facility and the “Energy Ramstein” process, while helping shape priorities ahead of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026.
