From Reykjavík to Berlin: Advancing Ukraine’s Role in Europe’s Energy and Economic Future

Razom We Stand took part in the 2026 Wellbeing Economy Forum in Reykjavík and the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD), engaging in discussions on the intersection of economic resilience, energy transition, and security.

At the Wellbeing Economy Forum, exchanges focused on the critical need to move beyond GDP-centric models of economic wellbeing, towards approaches that integrate social resilience, sustainability, and long-term economic stability. For Ukraine, such exchanges are directly relevant: reconstruction will require not only rebuilding infrastructure, but redefining economic priorities under conditions of war, recovery, and EU integration.

In Berlin, participation in policy discourse at the BETD Evening Reception held alongside the Petersberg Climate Dialogue provided an opportunity for informal exchange with policymakers, industry representatives, and international organisations. Discussion and debate centred on energy security, the pace of the clean energy transition, and the role of public-private cooperation in delivering it.

Both engagements reinforced several points relevant to Razom We Stand’s work, as trends sharpen around the increasing alignment between energy security and decarbonisation in European policy debates; the need to position Ukraine’s recovery within broader discussions on economic transformation, not only reconstruction; the importance of sustained dialogue between governments, industry, and civil society in shaping practical pathways forward.

These discussions will help focus strategic ongoing work advocating for a fossil-free, resilient Ukrainian energy system, and on ensuring Ukraine is integrated into emerging European frameworks on energy and economic policy.
