Razom We Stand presented the project on implementation of the EU Methane Regulation at the ‘Environment for Ukraine’ forum

On 10 June 2026, Razom We Stand representatives Oleh Savytskyi and Kateryna Kontsur took part in the International Environmental Forum “Environment for Ukraine”, held in Kyiv and organised by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The forum served as a platform for dialogue between government bodies, civil society, international partners, the business community and experts on the priorities of state environmental policy, green recovery and Ukraine’s European integration. Key topics of the event included environmental governance, climate policy, reform of the state control system and integrated environmental monitoring, digitalisation, as well as Ukraine’s preparation for further reforms within the framework of its European integration course.

During the forum, Razom We Stand’s strategic advisor Oleh Savytskyi presented the project “Supporting the Implementation of the EU Methane Regulation in Ukraine”, which is being implemented with the support of the Ukraine2EU Programme. The aim of the project is to help Ukraine, as part of the adaptation of national legislation to EU law, prepare for the practical and timely implementation of the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2024/1787 on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector.

In his presentation, Oleh Savytskyi emphasised that the implementation of the EU Methane Regulation in Ukraine is not only a matter of environmental compliance and a task within the framework of preparations for EU accession, but also an important element of modernising energy governance, increasing the sector’s transparency and strengthening Ukraine’s energy security. The Regulation provides for a transition from fragmented methane emissions accounting to a comprehensive system of measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification, compatible with the future requirements of EU energy markets.

The expected outcomes of the project include a draft framework law and a reform roadmap, recommendations for improving sectoral state regulation, a knowledge base and practical tools for operators, as well as enhanced coordination between authorities, companies and the expert community.

Razom We Stand views the proper implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/1787 as an important opportunity for Ukraine to combine climate policy, energy security and European integration. Establishing a transparent methane emissions management system will help Ukraine move closer to EU standards, reduce energy losses and lay the groundwork for practical emissions reductions in the oil and gas and coal sectors.
